Ingredients

  • • 2 lbs For You® Turnips
  • • 2 T. unsalted butter
  • • 3 T. maple syrup
  • • 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • • 1 pinch freshly grated nutmeg
  • • Salt and pepper as needed
  • • Water as needed
  • • 1 T. chopped flat-leaf parsley
  • • 2 tsp. fresh lemon juice

Instructions

Roasting ForYou® turnips with a quick maple glaze caramelizes them into something close to a candy — sweet, savory, and a little smoky at the edges. Plant-based, vegetarian, and the kind of side dish that turns turnip skeptics into believers. Serve with roast chicken, pork, or a holiday meal.

  • 2 lbs For You® Turnips
  • 2 T. unsalted butter
  • 3 T. maple syrup
  • 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch freshly grated nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper as needed
  • Water as needed
  • 1 T. chopped flat-leaf parsley
  • 2 tsp. fresh lemon juice

1. Peel the turnips and cut into even 1″ cubes. Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a sauté pan over medium heat. Add the maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt and pepper to taste. Add the turnips and then enough water to reach a depth of 1/4″. Bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce the heat to a simmer, cover, and pan steam until the turnips are tender, 7 to 8 minutes.
2. Remove the cover from the pan, and continue to cook the turnips until the water has cooked away and the syrup has glazed each piece evenly, about 3 minutes. Add the remaining butter to the pan with the parsley and lemon juice. Shake the pan until the butter is melted and the turnips are evenly coated. Season to taste with additional salt and pepper. Serve immediately.

Miedema Produce Team & History

MIEDEMA PRODUCE

Our Humble Beginning

Miedema Produce began in 1971 when brothers Gerald and Ron Miedema raised their first crops in Jenison, Michigan. The duo learned from their father, Ted, who had farmed in the Netherlands, immigrated to the United States, and used his vegetable growing expertise to make his start in the United States.

Miedema Produce began growing bright and crisp radishes, which is now our hallmark product being grown and produced today. Miedema Produce has since become one of the largest growers and shippers of radishes in the world.
